Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre by Frasers Property Australia and Umbrella Dementia Cafés (UDC) share a passion to build responsive and inclusive community environments.
Together we’ve created a new, accessible dementia social group, called a ‘dementia café, for our local community members affected by dementia, right here at our world famous Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre!
Opening in May 2024, we welcomed 10 people who’ve recently been diagnosed with dementia and their care-partners to join our supportive and fun social group. This new group will meet every 2nd and 4th Wednesday afternoon in our community function room The Hollows, to share stories, have a laugh, support each other and meet fellow locals who want to live well with dementia.
On the 20th March we opened our doors to the Burwood Brickworks community and enjoyed an afternoon tea in the Hollows Room, Level 1 of the shopping centre. It was a full house and we presented to a wide range of people who were interested in our new cafe initiative.

Registrations are now open to recruit new volunteers and train them in the UDC model. This new team will support the Burwood Dementia Cafe and be part of a boarder Umbrella volunteer team . We have a very strong volunteer team across 4 of our established Umbrella Dementia Cafes, who are empowered to support every person who attends the cafe. Our organisation wouldn’t exist without our treasured and valued volunteer team. They exemplify the positive culture in all of our Umbrella Dementia Cafes.

If you are a health care professional who wants to promote your services, please get in touch. We’d love to have your brochures available to our guests at the cafe meetings starting in May, 2024.
Umbrella Dementia Cafés a Health Promotion NFP Charity (with DGR). We are funded by friends from our Philanthropic Trusts, Grants, community donations and through the sales of our very own dementia-friendly online products, developed during COVID-19 lockdowns.
