Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre, Middlesborough Road
Description

The Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre and Umbrella Dementia Cafés share a passion to build responsive and inclusive community environments. Together we’ve created an onsite dementia café for people who’ve recently been diagnosed with dementia and their care-partners to join our supportive and fun social group.

Our café meetings are located right beside the the award-winning roof top garden, managed by Cultivating Communities. We share stories, have a laugh, support each other and meet fellow locals who want to live well with dementia.

This group has a maximum of 10 couples and is supported by a strong volunteer team who live local. One of our volunteers, Jenny is a retired registered nurse who cared for her mother for 14 years with dementia. Jenny facilitates the Cares Support Group during the café.

Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre is a dog friendly shopping centre and therefore our members are welcome bring their well-behaved caine family members to the café.

This café is perfect for people

  • Who appreciate getting all their shopping done before or after the café.
  • Who have been recently diagnosed with dementia
  • Who love to play games and enjoy singing
  • Don’t mind the background noises of a shopping centre
  • Comfortable with an elevator or stairs to get to Level1
  • Of all ages and dementia types
  • Who come from a CALD background.
  • Whose family care-partner is interested in joining the Carers Support Meeting
  • Who live within 10kms of the Burwood community
  • Who don’t mind dogs visiting the café
  • Who don’t mind the local kindergarten kids visiting the café

 

Our members request that health care professionals attend by invitation only please. Brochures are very welcome.

We are accepting new members to our cafés. Fill out the form, and a team member will recommend the best café based on your needs. After a trial, you can register as a permanent member for fortnightly catch-ups.
