Description
DCaf Connections is Sydney’s original DCaf social café. It was established in 2018 for families of people living with mild cognitive impairment to socialise outside their homes with other families experiencing similar life journeys.
Cafes run 10.00am-12.00pm Thursday mornings all year apart from public holidays. Our programme focusses equally on family carers and their loved ones to reduce social isolation and encourage long term camaraderie and supportive friendships.
Our weekly programme offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor physically and mentally stimulating activities to cater for all participants’ abilities and interests.
Weekly: 30 minutes fitness (balance, co-ordination, memory and strength) run by an experienced fitness instructor. Afterwards we enjoy a cuppa and chat plus various indoor or outdoor activities, or a speaker about a variety of community or worldwide topics.
Monthly carers’ conversational café (1st week): a confidential space where carers can share ideas and information while their loved ones enjoy various table-based activities in an adjacent room.
Monthly musical café (3rd week): run by our talented team of musicians offering everyone singing and/or instrumental opportunities (solos and/or within small or whole groups). Books with words to the songs ensure that everyone can confidently join in the singing; afterwards we enjoy each other’s company over lunch.
Periodically: we play croquet, snooker/pool or lawn bowls at The Warrawee Club or relocate our café to alternative local indoor or outdoor locations to enjoy what our community provides.
Bookings are essential! We do not offer a drop-in option..
