A New Dementia Caf\u00e9 in Sorrento!\u00a0<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re plugging into the Sorrento community and adding them to our growing network of social groups supporting families, couples and people living with dementia.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building a brand-new Umbrella Dementia Caf\u00e9 takes a village!\u00a0\u00a0So, we\u2019ve joined forces with the team at Sorrento Community Centre, the inclusive community experts, to\u00a0create regular and informal social meetings, fondly called \u2018caf\u00e9s\u2019,\u00a0for\u00a0local\u00a0couples experiencing dementia both online and in person.\u00a0\u00a0Our caf\u00e9s will be for people who just want to feel connected and\u00a0have the chance to\u00a0share experiences with other people living the same shaky dementia journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our 5th caf\u00e9 ‘under our Umbrella’ started on Thursday the 2nd\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>of September 2021 (online if you can believe it) with 3 couples and two volunteers meeting via Zoom every fortnight until the lockdown lifted in November 2021.\u00a0 In these online caf\u00e9s, we achieved the all important task of officially naming the caf\u00e9 and we even created a logo to boot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, nothing compares to the face to face caf\u00e9 experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, on the 25th November 2021, now four couples and two volunteers finally meet at the Sorrento Community Centre and celebrated the first physical caf\u00e9 with an ice-cream tasting competition, donated our friends at Mubble ice-creamery in Sorrento!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who are Umbrella Dementia Caf\u00e9s?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Umbrella Dementia Caf\u00e9s has\u00a0coordinated over 310 dementia caf\u00e9s both online and in person since 2016 using the ageless \u2018village model\u2019. Now we believe it\u2019s time to share our knowledge and empower local communities to do it too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Umbrella Dementia Caf\u00e9s is a registered charity with the determined goal to improve the social health and well-being of people living with dementia.\u00a0\u00a0We support a network of five social groups, made up of couples and their partners with early to mid-stage dementia and who continue to reside in the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These lovely photos of each of our caf\u00e9 groups were taken before COVID-19 restrictions. All our caf\u00e9s are Covid Safe, where social distancing and mask wearing is embraced and not a problem.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
