Umbrella Dementia Caf\u00e9s <\/span>is an independent charity, <\/span>operat<\/span>ing<\/span> five volunteer-supported social groups across Victoria, providing supportive environments for individuals with dementia and their <\/span>carers<\/span>. <\/span>Our dementia <\/span>caf\u00e9s <\/span>are located in<\/span> local community <\/span>settings <\/span>including neighbourhood houses<\/span>, <\/span>churches<\/span> and a shopping centre. Each other <\/span>personalised<\/span> activities that promote autonomy, connection, <\/span>awareness<\/span> and inclusivity<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Each of our cafes have a dedicated paid Caf\u00e9 Facilitators who are supported by a team of up to 10 trained volunteers, most with lived experience.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Umbrella Dementia Cafes has an operational team who provide all the resources, administration, equipment and insurances to allow the Caf\u00e9 Facilitators, caf\u00e9 participants (including members and volunteers) to thrive in a positive cafe culture, are continuously improving and enjoy a high-quality caf\u00e9 program that is directly reflective of the people who attend. .\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

The capacity of each caf\u00e9 is based on the size of the room, however we limit each group to 10 couples and 10 volunteers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We have two registration periods each year, February and December. Once each caf\u00e9 has reached its capacity of 10 couples, we place people on a waitlist until the next registration period or if a couple leaves the group.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

In three words \u2013 fun, friendship and support.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Each cafe runs for a maximum of 2 hours. Volunteers meet one hour before the caf\u00e9 to set up and stay for an hour afterwards to pack away.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The 2-hour caf\u00e9 time is divided up into 3 parts; enjoy a morning or afternoon tea together, fun activities and a Carers Support Meeting.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Beyond Umbrella Dementia Caf\u00e9s, there <\/span>are <\/span>other dementia cafes who are a part of our UDC network, but who <\/span>operate<\/span> independently of UDC<\/span>. Each of these cafes were\u00a0<\/span>established<\/span> with the help of Umbrella Dementia Cafes but <\/span>operate<\/span> independently<\/span>.
